![]() “They might meet with the teacher in a small group for extra help, use math software, do a game or project at the hands-on station, or do seat work based on the day’s mini-lesson,” she says. She says math teachers at her school spend about 10 minutes on a mini-lesson for the whole class and then students spend about 15 minutes at various math centers. We spoke with Kristy McFarlane, an instructional supervisor at Sandshore Elementary School in New Jersey, about differentiation. Strategy 1: Math Centersįor this, you’ll need to come up with a few activities your students can rotate through (be sure to browse our library of free activities and resources!), such as watching a video, reading an article, or solving a word problem. ![]() Customize these ideas however you need to serve you and your students. They serve as examples of differentiated instruction in math and may work better for some classrooms and math topics than others. Examples of Differentiated Instruction in Mathĭo you need ideas for how to differentiate your teaching to be sure your math students are progressing? Below are seven differentiation strategies for math instruction, along with ways that you can use them in your math classroom. When you differentiate your math instruction, you support all learners by targeting and addressing specific needs of groups and individual students. NCTM advises that the need is greater in middle and high school, as higher-level math relies on more complex reasoning. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) promotes differentiating math instruction for differences in learning as well as differences in achievement, interest, and confidence. That’s why it’s especially important to be open to new ways of providing instruction. In addition, many students and educators alike find it hard to make the connection between math and the real world, which only increases disillusionment with the subject. From the anxiety caused by there being only one correct answer to the cultural buy-in to the myth of being-or not being-a “math person” to the fear of solving a word problem, many students struggle with math. Even though a 2018 survey by Texas Instruments found that 46% of kids said they really liked math, there are hundreds of books, websites, and memes discussing the difficulty of the subject. Some people think that math, more than any other subject, is the best fit for differentiation. Why Is Differentiating Math Instruction Important? ![]() Quite the opposite, in fact it’s meant as a teaching approach that will help you to reach more students in terms of accessibility and equity, making your job both easier and more effective in the long run. Differentiating instruction isn’t meant to add more work to your day. When we use the term, we are talking about providing student choice, voice, and agency. We know that there are different schools of thought regarding what differentiation means. Timothy Kanold, former president of the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM)-and HMH author- clarifies that differentiation in a math lesson is “differentiation on the entry points into the task for support or the exit point to advance student thinking.”īy applying various tools and strategies, such as incorporating technology, assigning hands-on projects, and teaching in math small-group formats, you can help every student meet expectations. What Is Differentiated Math Instruction?ĭifferentiated math instruction refers to the collection of techniques, strategies, and adaptations you can use to reach your diverse group of learners and make mathematics accessible to every single one. Do you struggle to reach all of your students? Are you a newer teacher who is looking to improve your practice? The strategies for differentiated instruction provided here might help you out. On the flip side, though, teaching math to a broad array of students can be challenging. When we have students with diverse backgrounds-with various languages, achievements, and interests-in the same space, everyone learns from each other and broadens their world. Math classrooms are mosaics of strengths and experiences. The cost may depend on the quality of the paint and custom work. You’ll need the right supplies from a reliable supplier. Painting your Chevy Tahoe is a great way to enhance its look. Apply with either traditional spray or aerosol cans – whichever best suits your budget & needs. Match the color to Chevy’s original code for accuracy. Use flat for less exposed surfaces, like near rocker panels & doorjambs. Gloss works best for panels that should shine, like doors/bumpers. Acrylic and urethane enamel are most popular for DIYers since they are more durable than lacquers. There are two main things to consider: type and finish. Plus, other important considerations: Selecting the Right PaintĬhoosing paint for your Chevy Tahoe is key for a pro-level look. In this article, let’s explore the cost of painting a Chevy Tahoe. But how much does it cost? It depends on what type of paint and how much you need. You are prepping the surface, masking off areas, applying the paint – and waiting for it to dry. Applying the PaintĪre you painting a Chevy Tahoe? It’s easy! An experienced DIYer can do it. Allow surfaces to dry in the air before priming.Rinse the area thoroughly to remove dirt.Wipe away dust and debris with a clean cloth and soap-wash water.Progressively use finer grades of paper until a smooth finish is achieved. Apply pressure and slide back and forth in circular motions. Spray water or use wet/dry sandpaper lubricant from automotive supply stores to help prevent scratches. Use the right abrasives, and take your time-wet sand with either 600 or 800-grit paper. Sanding your vehicle is an important part of the painting process. Wait 4-6 hours for it to dry, then you’re ready to paint! Sanding the Surface When dry (3 hours), apply two coats of self-etching urethane primer with the same spray gun settings, increasing pressure by 10 psi each time. Once all surface issues are fixed, apply two coats of epoxy primer with an air spray gun at 25 psi. Don’t go into the existing paint layers too deep it can affect the paint’s longevity. Start with 180-grit paper and move to 220 and 360-grit, using light pressure. Quality primer will give a better look and last longer.īefore primer, any rust or defects must be removed. An epoxy primer is often applied, then a high-build urethane primer. Primers offer protection and compounds that help the paint stick better. Applying PrimerĪpplying primer is important for prepping a vehicle for painting. It creates perfect conditions for applying a new coating and color. It loosens paint that was previously applied. Chemical Strip: Chemical stripping uses solvents like acids or caustic solutions. This creates an even surface for new paint. It also erases rust, wrong body filler, scratches and other surface issues. It stops scratching caused by dry sanding. Wet Sanding: This uses a damp sponge or material. You use equipment with abrasive paper and chemicals to strip away layers of paint. Sanding: Dry sanding is common for paint removal. These include sanding, Wet Sanding and chemical stripping. Removing paint may need different methods. Painting a vehicle requires you to remove the old paint. Smoother, even and lasting, it’ll be a masterpiece! Removing the Old Paint Don’t forget priming, too – this ensures the paint job’s success. ![]() Painting a Chevy Tahoe? Before you start, prep it up! If your pet is one of them, please make sure that both sides of the S-hook are completely closed. ![]() There are millions of pets out there with S-hook attachments. We decided that day to eliminated the S-hook as an option. There is simply no way for us to ensure that every S-hook will be pinched entirely shut so that this can’t ever happen again. Luckily, this second dog also fully recovered. That small opening allowed the S-hook to still act as a hook and grab the dogs’ eyelid. Further investigation showed that in both cases, the S-hook was pinched shut enough to hold the tag from falling off- but not pinched entirely closed. We felt this had to be a once-in-a-lifetime, freak accident. In fact, we hadn’t ever heard of any S-hook related injury. We found it nearly impossible to even imagine how this accident could have happened. The owners just wanted us to know of the potential danger posed by the S-hook. We were relieved to know that the dog recovered with no lasting injuries. Somehow a dog wearing one of our tags, got the S-hook hooked into his eyelid. About 6 years ago, we got a letter in the mail describing a terrible accident. S-hooks are a simple, effective way to attach a tag to a collar but it does require pliers to pinch it shut. In the time since Newton, the conceptual content of classical physics has been reformulated in alternative ways, involving different mathematical approaches that have yielded insights which were obscured in the original, Newtonian formulation. ![]() Newton used them to investigate and explain the motion of many physical objects and systems, which laid the foundation for classical mechanics. We’ve already mentioned controllers where I and J are incremental which is a similar case to UVW, albeit intended for arc center location. This UVW format is convenient and a little shorter. G0 U1V1 ( Move one unit right in X and one unit right in Y ) We could write the previous program this way: Some controllers allow both styles to be active at once using UVW. Therefore, make sure one of the first things you do in your program is to set it to either gcode G90 or gcode G91 so it does what you expect! Using UVW Words for Incremental Coordinates The truth is, not being in the mode you expect is not safe any way you look at it because the machine will do something unexpected. In other words, if you expected absolute it is thought to be safer to start in incremental than if you expected incremental and start in absolute. This is done because it is thought to be safer if the mode is not what you expect. Interestingly, most controls will startup in relative/incremental mode (G91). Which Mode Does My Controller Use as the Default? G91 Now we know exactly where we are, so switch to incremental coordinates.ĭimensions are always handy when figuring incremental moves: We don’t know where the cutter is, so we use absolute to make sure. G90 Make sure we are in gcode G90 absolute coordinate mode. G91 GCode Incremental Positioning Mode Example Not going to show all the moves to clear the pocket, but we’ve just gone around the perimeter using absolute moves. Now we go around the pocket counter-clockwise so we are climb milling G01 Use cutting feedrate (actual feedrate and spindle rpm gcodes are not shown X1.25 Y1.25 Absolute coordinates right above the corner G90 Make sure we are in gcode G90 absolute positioning mode. We assume the cutter is somewhere a safe distance above the part so that we can rapid. ![]() Given a 6″ wide by 4″ tall by 1″ thick piece of material, we want to cut a pocket that is inset 1″ from the edges using a 1/2″ end mill. ![]() Let’s start with G Code G90 Absolute Mode. In this example and the next I will show how to carve out the same figure, a rectangular solid, using absolute and incremental coordinates. As you can see, g code G90 and g code G91 are modal. The preceeding program includes absolute positioning to X0Y0Z0 and incremental positioning. G90 ( Switch back to absolute coordinates ) G0 X1Y1 ( Move one unit right in X and one unit right in Y ) G0 X0Y0Z0 ( Move to program origin at 0, 0, 0 ) How can we switch between Incremental and Absolute Positioning Mode in our cnc program? The usual way is to use g code G90 to use Absolute Mode and G91 to use Incremental Mode. Switching between Incremental (g code G91) and Absolute Positioning Mode (g code G90) It’s just another way of saying the same thing. Note that what we might call “incremental coordinates” are often called “incremental mode” coordinates in the CNC Controller Programming manuals. We’re used to both kinds in everyday life and both are useful depending on the situation. If instead, he responds, “It’s three aisles down that way,” that’s an incremental mode coordinate. If he responds, “Go to Aisle 14 for the cookies,” those directions use absolute positioning. Suppose you’re in a grocery store and you ask the clerk which aisle the cookies are on. The coordinates of the arc center as expressed by I and J are incremental coordinates. We just looked at Circular Arc moves using G02 and G03. ![]() Incremental moves are measured from the current position. Absolute coordinates are measured from program zero, the program’s origin. What’s the Difference Between Absolute and Incremental Coordinate System? Here’s the scoop: gcodes G90 and G91 tell your CNC machine whether to use absolute or incremental coordinates. ![]() The charge lance got a range nerf recently, so it's really not comparable to the sniper rifle, though like the sniper rifle you want to give it to someone who is good with shooting so they make every shot count.įor melee weapons, the best thing you can craft I believe is still the uranium mace, but the Royalty DLC adds a bunch of new melee weapons which are better if you can manage to get your hands on them. Another thing with the assault rifle is that it weighs only 3.5 kg, which means you can carry more stuff when caravaning.
